Lifespan of Poplar trees
Poplar trees do not have a long life span. They are trees that grow rapidly and are considered one of the fastest growing trees. Poplars are tall columnar shaped trees which make good hedge and screen trees. They have a short life span compared to some other trees.
Hybrid poplar which is also known as Populus x Canadensis Robusta, grows 6 feet in just one year, reaching heights of over 70 feet. The life span of hybrid poplar is 30 to 50 years. Lombardy Poplar, Populus nigra, is a tall columnar tree with a short lifespan of about 20 years. Most of this species are infected with stem canker disease between 10 and 15 years.
Theves Poplar grows 40 to 50 feet tall and has a longer lifespan than the Lombardy Poplar. Balsam Poplar has one of the longest life span among populus species. It’s lifespan is 80 to 150 years. Balsam Poplar reaches the height of about 24 feet tall. Tulip Poplar is also one of the longer lifespan poplars. It can live over 100 years. Generally, poplars have a short lifespan, but are fast growing trees.
